All The Worlds A Pub!

Poetry comes and goes in the fashion stakes. You get times when everybody is rhyming like mad, others when vers libre is all around you. Then the bottom drops out of the market completely and you get poets standing outside publishers’ offices trying to sell you a copy of ‘The Big Verse’. But one area of poetry never changes, Beer Poetry. It avoids fashion. It talks of the happy pint, the convivial hotel bar, the good pub, the dreamy drink, the way things might be, not the way things are. Whoops! Sorry, I unintentionally burst into verse there. But Beer Poetry is not only great literature, it is also true! Everyone who likes a pint finds their deepest joys and fears in Beer Poetry and all life’s situations are there. As Titus ‘Two Bladders’ Andronicus famously said in the Flag and Bottle, “Another pint, Gavin. It’s been a difficult day.”
