About the Event
This is the first ever solo piano recital in the Black Cherry Theatre and Doug is proud to be the performer.
His programme is in two sections. In the first half he improvises in a range of styles, from the early stride piano of Fats Waller to Coldplay; from Beethoven to Radiohead.
In the second half he gives the first ever performance of the Complete Beatles Songbook (Reduced) in which he incorporates over 200 Beatles songs into a somewhat crazy improvised portrait of the 1960s!
Doug is an award-winning graduate of the Royal College of Music, who went on to work as a composer with the Royal Ballet and London Contemporary Dance Theatre, as well as giving many recitals as a solo classical pianist. He is also regarded as a leading transcriber of complex jazz piano improvisations, with over 300 made so far.
Currently Doug works as a freelance musician and teacher in the Bournemouth area and is the Musical Director of the Black Cherry Theatre Company.
